Geneva, Switzerland,
2008-02-06 – Libya has become the 69th member of
the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) – the world’s
leading organization that prepares and publishes International
Standards for all electrical, electronic and related technologies and
that manages global conformity assessment schemes. This brings the
total number of countries participating in the IEC Family to 146
countries.
The International Register
of Certificated Auditors (IRCA) and the Libyan National Centre for
Standardization and Metrology (LNCSM) entered into an agreement to
provide local auditor certification services for Libyan
auditors.
Accreditation is the
procedure by which an authoritative body gives formal recognition that
a body or person is competent to carry out specific tasks. In the ISO
9000 or ISO 14000 context, it relates to the work of the accreditation
bodies that have been set up in a number of countries to evaluate the
competence of certification bodies. An accreditation body will
accredit– approve – a conformity assessment body as competent to carry
out ISO 9000 or ISO 14000 certification in specific business
sectors.
